The Australian Government has appointed Scott Reid as its new Honorary Consul for Madagascar.
Scott Reid is an Australian Citizen originally from New South Wales. He works in the mining sector and has been a member of the Australian community in Madagascar for many years, serving as a consular warden for the past two years. In that capacity, he works closely with the Australian Embassy (Port Louis accredited to Madagascar) on issues in relation to mining, higher education, scholarships, consular issues and community events. Mr Reid’s wife is Malagasy and they have two children.
Around 1200 Australians have visited Madagascar in 2016; this number has been growing due to increased tourism, Australian NGO and volunteer activity, business interest and the number of Australian Universities delivering short courses and trainings.
The Honorary Consul can now conduct passport interviews and provide consular assistance to Australian citizens in distress, under the overall responsibility of the Australian Embassy in Port Louis.
