Elections 2010

The federal election will be held on Saturday 21 August 2010.


If you are overseas, it is not compulsory to vote but you should complete the overseas notification form at www.aec.gov.au to avoid being fined.

You will be able to vote either in person at the Australian High Commission, Port Louis, or by applying for a postal vote.
You will need to know which Australian address you are currently enrolled at in order to be issued with the correct ballot papers for your electorate.

Please note that you will not be able to cast your vote on polling day due to the time difference between Australia and Mauritius, the Seychelles, Reunion Island, the Comores and Madagascar.

By voting early, you may avoid queues and delays.

Alternatively, you can apply for a postal vote by going to www.aec.gov.au and completing an “Application for a postal vote” form. Postal vote applications are also available from the Australian High Commission, Port Louis. The Australian High Commission will accept complete postal vote applications until 3pm Wednesday 18 August 2010. Your ballot papers will then be sent to you to complete and post back.
If you opt for a postal vote, apply now so that we can get your ballot papers to you in time.
If you are unable to attend an overseas voting centre or complete a postal vote you should notify the AEC by emailing [email protected]
