So long and thanks for all the laughs
Stuart Shaw
It is with sadness that the First Secretary Stuart Shaw and his family have left Mauritius at the end of their 3 year posting on the 24th August 2006.
Stuart has contributed enormously to the good working environment of the mission with its capable staff; he managed the office with great skill and good nature, enhanced by a sense of humour that will indeed be missed.
Stuart had also been smitten by the beautiful Mauritian landscape, especially the Southern, “wild” part of the Island. He will also surely take away fond memories of the scenic view from his balcony of the sunset and the “Trois Mamelles” mountains which have drooped in sadness at the departure of their admirer.
Isabella & Audrey Shaw
A fine sportsman, he impressed us by his talents in sports – how can Mauritians forget his great Kangaroo hopping style in cricket matches he played and which were broadcast on TV!
We will always remember his daily “sorties” with his faithful lunch companion (The Book!) tucked under the arm.
Stuart had only good experiences here and his family were warmly welcome by the Mauritian community. He leaves with good memories.
Peter Cantwell
With Stuart’s departure, Peter Cantwell has arrived from Canberra to replace him. Peter is an experienced officer with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade who served at the Australian Embassy in Bangkok between 1998 & 2001. Most recently, Peter has been working in the Finance Management Branch.
Peter has three children who have remained in Australia to pursue their education and employment opportunities, but Peter says we can expect to see them visit the island when opportunities allow.
