We had an early opportunity to congratulate the new President of the Union of Comoros, President Ahmad Abdallah Sambi, following his success in the Presidential elections in May. The Ambassador visited Comoros from 19-21 June and made calls on the President, Vice President and four out of the five other Ministers.

This was also an opportunity to inaugurate a new project which we had funded under our Direct Aid Program to assist a training program for disabled people. This was very well received and coverage was given in the local television news and radio of the Australian aid contribution.

Our relations with Comoros are modest, but there are nevertheless opportunities for cooperation in relation to the environment, and fisheries management issues.
