Anou Pedaler Cycle Race

Another year, another classic cycle event! Waking up on 8 October 2006, and realizing there was a refreshing 30 km south east wind blowing was unusually reassuring. For this was the day of the Anou Pedaler cycle race, and when one needs to cover 100 km, one needs all the help one can get, including a tail wind. This memorable event involves 1000 participants from Mauritius, South Africa and yes, even Australia. And it’s a ripper!

Lyn Rayner.

Happily, the Aussies in the field all safely completed the annual cycle tour from Mahebourg in the South East of Mauritius to Mont Choisy on the North West Coast. Again, Lynn Rayner, one of our High Commission wardens, starred in finishing the course in a very creditable three hours and five minutes. Other participants enjoying lots of sunshine, and a spectacular course, included Libby McCutchan, Rod Rayner, Dominique Dacruz and Ian McConville. Roll on next year, and remember next year’s resolution: “I must do more training before I commence another Anou Pedaler course.”
