Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games Sport Development Volunteers Program: Seychelles
The Australian High Commission is very pleased to announce the placement of an experienced Australian sports consultant, Narelle Sibte, to the Seychelles for a period of 5 months. During this time, Ms Sibte will be working closely with the Seychelles Olympic Committee to share her skills and experience to help Seychelles build up its elite sports development program. The program is fully funded by the Victorian Government – host of the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games – and managed by the Australian Sports Commission.
This initiative further strengthens the close people-to-people ties existing between our two countries, which will be further bolstered by the Seychelles’ participation in the Melbourne 2006 XVII Commonwealth Games to be held from 15-26 March 2006.
“The Sport Development Volunteers Program aims to take Victorian and Australian sports know-how to develop long-term sporting benefits in targeted Commonwealth countries,” said Justin Madden MLC, Minister for Commonwealth Games, State Government of Victoria.
“We want the lasting benefits of the Commonwealth Games to extend beyond Victoria and Australia to other Commonwealth nations,” Mr Madden said.
