Broadband: BB3, Locally-Engaged Staff (LES)
Salary Package: Rs.34,593-Rs.41,224 per month commencing at Rs.34,593 per month. Plus a transport allowance, medical insurance, age pension contribution and life insurance and phone allowance.
Status: Full time
Contract: Two year contract subject to an initial probationary period of six months, satisfactory referees’ reports, a satisfactory medical examination, and a satisfactory background check.

Job Description
As the Consular and Protocol Officer in the Australian High Commission in Port Louis, the occupant of this position will advise and assist Australian citizens who require consular assistance.
The occupant of the position will liaise with relevent authorities in Mauritius, the Seychelles, Madagascar and the Comores.
The occupant will assist in management of the Australian High Commission and provide Executive support to the High Commissioner.
The successful applicant will have a proven ability to work under minimum supervision, organise workloads and resources effectively. High level interpersonal and communication (oral and written) skills are essential in English and French. Applicants will be short-listed for interviews and will be tested on their written English and French language skills at interview.
Duty Statement
In accordance with Workplace Diversity, Occupational Health and Safety and Industrial Democracy principles and practices, and under limited direction:
Consular
Advise and assist Australian citizens - including but not limited to welfare and whereabouts cases, arrest and detention, deportation, hospitalisation, repatriation and death.
Liaise with Canberra, local authorities and agencies in accordance with consular instructions.
Visit Australian citizens incarcerated in Mauritius in accordance with consular instructions.
Management of consular cases, including managing a database, in accordance with consular instructions.
Execute notarial acts within Australian government requirements.
Respond to general enquiries on a range of issues including Births, Deaths and Marriages and Australian State and Territory Driving Licences.
Respond to more complex enquiries relating to Consular matters.
Assist with updating of travel advisories and consular contingency plans.
Maintain the register of Australian citizens.
Execute notarial acts within Commonwealth Guidelines.
Process visa applications for Papua New Guinea.
Provide quarterly consular statistics.
Undertake role as the Elections Officer for Australian Federal and State Elections
In the absence of the Passports Officer, act as backup Passports Officer when required and in accordance with the Manual of Australian Passport Issue (MAPI).
Other duties as directed.
Protocol
Liaise with Protocol authorities in Mauritius, Seychelles, Madagascar and Comoros including drafting formal Third Person Notes in English/French.
Assist with diplomatic clearances for Australian official flights, VAT exemptions, issue of diplomatic cards to accredited diplomats, arrival and departure procedures for diplomats, prison visit requests and other formal notifications.
Executive Assistant
Prepare the High Commissioner’s Program using an electronic diary.
Screen phone calls and mail for the High Commissioner
Draft routine correspondence on behalf of High Commissioner
Liaise with local contacts at all levels in making appointments for the High Commissioner
Prepare visas for official travel for the High Commissioner
Assist with official visitor programs to the High Commission
Make arrangements for official functions including compilation of guest lists
Maintain contact lists and invitation lists
Prepare quarterly High Commissioner Representation (entertainment) returns.
Provide other administrative support to the High Commissioner as required
