MIGRATING AND WORKING IN AUSTRALIA (01July 2013)

Application for permanent residence:

If you wish to live permanently in Australia, you must apply for and be granted a permanent visa.

The Form 1126i (available from our website ‘www.immi.gov.au) will help you choose the permanent visa category and application form best suited for you.

Booklets with detailed information and application forms on each visa category are available free of charge from our website ‘www.immi.gov.au’.

Each booklet provides an explanation about the criteria to be met, includes application forms, processing fee and the address of the Department of Immigration and Citizenship office (DIAC) in Australia where the application must be sent for processing.

The Skilled Occupation List can be obtained from the Form 1121i which can be downloaded from the Department of Immigration and Citizenship website ‘www.immi.gov.au’.

Application to work in Australia:

The subclass 457 (Temporary Business Long Stay) visa is for skilled workers from outside Australia who have been sponsored and nominated by a business to work in Australia on a temporary basis.
A business can sponsor a skilled worker if they cannot find an appropriately skilled Australian citizen or permanent resident to fill a skilled position listed in the Consolidated Sponsored Occupations List.

Application for Family Migration: Partner, Prospective Marriage, Child, Adoption, Remaining Relative, Aged Dependent Relative, Carer, Orphan Relative and Dependent Child (445):

The above family migration visa applications are lodged, processed and decided at the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) office at the Australian High Commission in Pretoria, South Africa.

To obtain a checklist on the requirements for the above visa applications please make a request to the Pretoria office by email on ‘[email protected]’ or please consult the information available on the DIAC Pretoria website ‘www.southafrica.embassy.gov.au/pret/home.html’.
