Political and Research Officer
SELECTION CRITERIA

1. Ability to analyse issues, make sound judgements, make recommendations and achieve outcomes. Demonstrated ability to conduct research using the internet and other open source materials, and ability to produce high quality written reports in English on political, economic and other foreign policy issues of relevance to countries of responsibility
2. Ability to consult, liaise and negotiate effectively to achieve objectives. Demonstrated high level of communication skills in English and French both orally and in writing. Ability to undertake two way interpretation and translation into English and French.
3. Ability to contribute to planning, respond to challenges and deliver high quality work within tight deadlines. Ability to identify priorities. Demonstrated good organisational and time management skills.
4. Good understanding of domestic politics and foreign policy in the Indian Ocean region including trade and legislative processes. Knowledge of contemporary Australian issues desirable.
5. Strong interpersonal skills and a proven ability to build and maintain professional relationships and networks, including senior officials. Strong cross-cultural awareness. An ability to work collaboratively within a small team and to provide back up support
